WTF Is wfd01000.sys?

A friend just bought a brand new ASUS X58LE20DX from PC Fair yesterday. I told him to get original Windows Vista and that’s what they did.

However, the vendors told them they needed 1 hour to install everything for them; but it’s already very late and they wanted to go home instead. So, thinking that everything is supposed to go Plug and Play; they decided to insert the Windows CD and start the installation.

Instead, they had to call me.

They aren’t too tech savvy so they didn’t tell me what was wrong. I told them that the installation was supposed to start if they boot with their Vista CD.

Instead, when I booted up the laptop; I see the Blue Screen of Death and it says the wfd0100.sys has some problem that I didn’t even bother to memorize. A quick Google search reveals that it has something to do with the hard disk.

So I ran every diagnostic tool I have, only to give up with a full format that ended up crashing the system on 76%; after 1 full hour of waiting.

I told them, “It’s probably the RAM that’s giving problem to the PC”. I know it sounds stupid, nobody would believe that, I’ve actually tried.

They looked at me in disbelief as I unscrewed the back panel of the laptop.

There was a big orange sticker that says, "1G maximum” on one of the RAM slot, but a 2Gb RAM was plugged in. I wanted to go “AHA!” but instead switched the 1Gb RAM with the 2Gb and restarted the laptop.

There you go, the Windows installation started normally.

You crappy ASUS sales people, stop giving people problem just because it’s a stupid PC Fair and you can’t bother to check anything properly.

Once again, Jonny saves the day, free of charge.

No probs, there are 2 ram slots on that laptop, so you can have more than 1GB.

But take note that the 1st slot can only take 1GB, so how much you insert into the 2nd slot is all up to your budget.

The graphic it comes with is Embedded Intel® GMA X3100 Gfx (GM965/GL960), FSB 533 Max.
